Asturfeito moves forward to the manufacturing phase of the VATIST project for IFMIF-DONES

17.04.2026 – The DONES-TCO consortium, led by Asturfeito and also formed by Empresarios Agrupados Internacional and Ingecid, has successfully completed the design phase of the VATIST project for IFMIF-DONES.

Asturfeito is taking a new step forward in the VATIST project for IFMIF-DONES with the start of the manufacturing phase, following the successful completion of the design phase by the DONES-TCO consortium, led by the company and also formed by Empresarios Agrupados Internacional and Ingecid. The consortium also counts on ESS Bilbao as a partner, contributing its technical expertise in large vacuum components for scientific infrastructures.

This milestone marks the beginning of a new stage in a strategic project linked to the development of fusion energy. The contract covers the development of the technological validator for the IFMIF-DONES test cell, a scientific infrastructure located in Granada and designed to contribute to the validation of materials and technologies for future fusion facilities.

In this new phase, the project fully enters its industrial dimension. The scope of the contract includes the manufacturing, assembly and testing of the validator, made up of the vacuum vessel, the lithium target, the radiation shielding, the service systems and the equipment control system. In addition, an outer support structure will be designed and built to enable the integrated testing of the assembly.

For Asturfeito, this milestone reinforces its position as a leading industrial partner in highly complex technological projects and major international scientific infrastructures. As leader of the consortium, the company is now entering a particularly important industrial phase, in which its capabilities in advanced manufacturing, integration and execution will play a central role.

The contract is tendered and managed by Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico y la Innovación (CDTI) and funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) 2021-2027.
